Gary  > Germany 2012 > Würzburg 2012
I made this visit to Würzburg in late March 2012. It was warm for the season and obviously very sunny. I was stationed in Würzburg in the 1970's and always enjoy a return visit.

Marienberg Festung (fortress) viewed across the River Main. The fortress was stormed during the Peasant War but the Archbishop succeeded in driving away his unruly flock. I think he shelled the town as a form of punishment.
Another view of Marienberg Festung. St. Burkard church in the foreground.
Another view across the Main at a location near St. Burkard's.
A view up the Main River with St. Burkard in the foreground and the Käppelle in the distance.
The Main is navigable with locks.
Also along the river front is the Alter Kranen, the old crane.
In recent years I have read "The Lions' Bridge" about life in Würzburg leading up to and during WWII. This is said bridge with a view towards the fortress. It is also the start (for me) of a walk along a green belt park that follows the former town wall.
This is part of the green belt park that surrounds Würzburg. Flowers and trees were in bloom and it was quite a time to visit.
A wall that helps surround the Residenz Garten. The place was alive with birds: mainly Kohlmeisen (chickadees) and Amseln (blackbirds closely related to the American Robin). I also saw a woodpecker, probably a Buntspecht.
